Pfau Cochran Vertetis Amala PLLC We fight hard for survivors of sexual abuse and serious injury nationwide. Based out of Seattle and Tacoma, WA.

Founded in 2009 by four trial lawyers who wanted to build a firm focused entirely on plaintiffs, Pfau Cochran Vertetis Amala PLLC (PCVA) has grown from 8 to over 35 attorneys. We are now one of the largest plaintiff-only firms in Washington, known for handling high-impact cases with care, integrity, and results. PCVA has recovered more than $1 billion for clients in cases involving sexual abuse, medical malpractice, wrongful death, catastrophic injuries, and misconduct by powerful institutions. Our work has shaped Washington law and helped drive systemic change. Leadership in action!

PCVA Senior Associate Patrick Brown recently served as co-chair of the Washington State Association for Justice (WSAJ) Convention in Vancouver, British Columbia, alongside Janelle Chase Fazio of Beck Chase Gilman - Trial Lawyers.

The convention brought together legal professionals to share knowledge, strengthen connections and advance the work of advocating for justice. PCVA's involvement also included a continuing legal education presentation on appeals by attorney Alex Dietz.

Congratulations to PCVA partner Alex Dietz on receiving the President's Award from the Washington State Association for Justice (WSAJ).

Presented during this year's WSAJ Convention in Vancouver, British Columbia, the award recognizes Alex's contributions to the organization and the legal community.

Alex also shared his expertise with fellow attorneys during the convention, presenting a continuing legal education session focused on appeals.

We rocked Law Rocks Seattle!

PCVA Partner Ian Bauer took the stage as The Orphan 40, earning the top fundraising spot with more than $40,000 raised, including nearly $13,500 for Rebuilding Hope Sexual Assault Center.

Together, the event raised more than $91,000 for music education and local charities. Thank you to everyone who donated from near and far, and to the PCVA team who came out to cheer Ian on!

What does it mean to protect vulnerable adults if closing the case becomes more important than resolving the danger?

A new InvestigateWest report examines Washington Adult Protective Services, changes taking place within the agency and the broader implications of the recent Court of Appeals decision in the *Bell* case. The ruling found that Washington law does not require APS to investigate reports of vulnerable adult abuse, a decision PCVA attorneys intend to ask the Washington Supreme Court to review.

“The problem comes when the measure of success at APS becomes closing the file rather than resolving the danger,” said PCVA Partner Ian Bauer. “They are not the same thing. And when APS confuses the two, that’s when vulnerable adults are left in harm’s way.”

As Ian told InvestigateWest, “At the end of the day, APS’s job isn’t to close cases. It’s to protect vulnerable adults.”

Recently, PCVA Partner Ian Bauer presented alongside trauma specialist, author, international keynote speaker and expert witness Shari Botwin, LCSW at the 2026 National Crime Victim Bar Association Annual Conference, held in conjunction with the National Center for Victims of Crime’s National Training Institute in Chicago.

Their workshop, “Building Trust and Resilience: Trauma-Informed Approaches for Attorneys,” explored trauma-informed practices and how attorneys can better understand, support and advocate for survivors.
