On July 24, 2024, Izabella Garbarino was arrested after the Oswego County Sheriff's Office unlawfully detained her boyfriend Christian Wojdyla-Lerch and used unlawful force.
This video is the initial interactions, taken from the moment the arresting officer's body-worn camera footage began rolling.
Izabella and her boyfriend Christian were coming home from Destiny USA in Syracuse, NY from a movie. They exited I81 to get on Route 49 at the Central Square exit and on the offramp, Christian hit a guardrail.
When the officer arrived, Izabella is hugging him and trying to calm down Christian which is the initial frame of the body camera footage.
The officer within less than 10 seconds of his body camera footage tells Christian to "get on the ******* ground because I told you to."
The Deputy radios in a resisting call, and then punches Christian directly in the face while he's lying defenseless on the ground not resisting.
Christian is detained and moments later, Izabella is put into handcuffs. The officer asks her to spell Christian's name, and she says she would tell him after she knew the property in her car was safe, which she is legally and constitutionally entitled to do. At this point, the Deputy tells her she's under arrest for Obstructing Governmental Adminstration in the Second Degree.
