Hi, folks. I've been a business lawyer for 30 years. Let me tell you about my background for a minute. Maybe it will help you decide whether or not I have the right kind of experience to be helpful to you.
I worked for Fortune 500 companies in music, cable TV, telecom and tech. I have been a partner or founder of 5 start-ups, with one modestly successful exit so far. Those start-ups have been software companies for vertical industries, health supplement manufacturers, and a hardware company in the transportation industry.
I have helped hundreds of people buy, sell or start new businesses. I've done traditional Reg D Private Placements, and licensed IP for investors from the Tech Transfer offices of Cornell University, Syracuse University, Upstate Medical Research Hospital and the US Army for client entrepreneurs. I'm currently working with 2 clients who are involved with the CNY Biotech Accelerator.
My range of expertise starts with all sorts of commercial contracts. I was a leasing attorney for Pyramid Management, the mall developer, so I know commercial real estate very well. Working in the music industry taught me about copyright law, licensing and royalties.
Working for a long distance carrier, I managed an agent marketing program, and put together an environmental compliance program, as well as learning about digital networks and telecom services. I have been filing trademarks and copyrights for many years.
I worked as a consultant to IBM throughout the 1990s, and helped them bringing their business into the Internet Age, launching roughly a dozen product groups and hundreds of products over 10 years. I was a speech writer for IBM executives, and wrote articles that have been published in a number of business and tech magazines, and educational journals. I even wrote the script for IBM's Exhibit at EPCOT Center, back when the Internet was new.
I used to litigate in federal and state courts, and won cases in the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals, and the New York Appellate Division. I specialized in complex commercial litigation, including trademark disputes with national sporting goods brands, shareholder disputes and cases of securities fraud. I have numerous published decisions, but no longer litigate, except in exceptional circumstances.
I have been very active in promoting entrepreneurship in our community for over 2 decades, doing work for SCORE, The Tech Garden, SBDC and the Salt City Market. I look forward to working with you. I'm located in Suite 125 of "The Hub".
I'm not always in the office, so please feel free to book time to meet, Zoom or speak on the phone that's convenient for you.
