Memory Eternal, Kato. Thank you for your service. I will miss visiting you. May your pain be gone. đź’” the fight here continues. Your fight, your duty, is done. Rest Easy.

It is our policy not to post EOW K9s here at the Center. But today, we make an exception for a hero who was never just part of our story — he helped shape it.

For the last seven years, K9 Kato served as our ambassador. He carried himself with quiet strength, courage, loyalty, and grace. He represented everything this Center stands for, and everything we fight for every day. All of the heroes in our care are special, and each one leaves a piece of themselves with us. But Kato left something even deeper. He left his pawprints on our hearts.

Today, the State and the country mourn the loss of a remarkable K9 who fought until the very end with all the heart he had. Kato gave so much in his lifetime — through his service, his presence, his resilience, and the comfort he brought simply by being near. He reminded us that these heroes are more than working dogs. They are partners, protectors, family, and souls who change the lives of everyone blessed to know them.

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to K9 Sergeant David Aguiar for providing K9 Kato with his final ride. That final act of honor, dignity, and respect meant more than words can ever fully express.

Thank you, K9 Kato, for the love you gave, the lives you touched, and the strength you showed us every single day. Thank you for making this world better, gentler, and brighter just by being in it.

Your star is free now to watch over us from above.

Rest easy, Your mission here is complete.

We will take it from here.

While i understand the fear, and frustration when you encounter injured animals.. while we are in peak baby season, many of our incredible volunteer rehabbers in the state are compacted and beyond full. Please call or text ahead to ensure the best possible outcomes for these animals. Patience goes a long way. The animals and the rehabbers all appreciate you more than you know. They just ask for a little understanding while numbers needing aid remain incredibly high. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

We ask for your patience and kindness, as we are…BEYOND FULL. It kills us to say “no” to new intakes, but we simply have to. We have 140 injured and orphaned wild animals here at this time and we simply do not have room for any more.

As many of you know, we are trying to move to a bigger property so we can accept more animals in need - but at this time, we simply can’t.

We ask that you please not show up here with animals without calling first as we only accept animals if we feel we can offer them the proper care and housing.

We can’t offer that to any more animals at this time.

As soon as we are able to, we will open our doors again. Thank you for your understanding.

Everything in life happens for a reason. And I am thankful that life has brought some pretty incredible people and some amazing experiences into mine, so that we may attempt to make the world a better place. -Adam

Thankful for the Westford Police for taking such great care of Jane, and thankful for the MPTC for welcoming what was truly a random idea and an even more random email with a request to create a training where we can all collaborate and get along. 🙏🏻

I don’t think anyone expected me to start that class the way I did… humbled, emotional, and sharing a deeply personal story from just one week prior.

I had called Teper Legal from the police station to tell him I wouldn’t be making it to the Randolph MPTC training we were supposed to do together. Cancelling last minute is not something I do…

But a child very close to me had just been assaulted by an adult, and in that moment, I didn’t know what to do. I was broken. I was shaking. I was trying so hard to be strong.

The police officer standing in front of us spoke with such kindness. He was in full uniform - gun on his hip and intimidating at first glance, yet so incredibly gentle with the traumatized young person sitting in front of him.

He explained our rights. He calmly walked us through the next steps. He assured us the person responsible would be arrested.

As I watched this officer in his element, I was taken aback.

The very next day, I was supposed to stand in front of officers and “teach” them about wildlife calls and wildlife incidents. I had spent years working alongside police officers on animal cases, but this gave me insight I had never truly experienced before…the weight they carry during some of the worst moments of people’s lives.

I was humbled.

And though I have always respected law enforcement, this gave me an entirely new level of appreciation for what they do. I usually feel very strong - but this moment I couldn’t have felt weaker. We needed them and they were there.

They have checked in several times since that day just to make sure the child was okay. It was genuine. It was compassionate. It mattered more than they probably realize.

Today, I finally got to teach that course for police officers on wildlife incidents - but not before thanking them…

Thanking them for the difficult situations they walk into every day.

Thanking them for the compassion they show people during their darkest moments.

And thanking them for being willing to learn how to do even more - not only for the public, but for our wildlife as well.

I was humbled and honored to speak today with Teper Legal and Dedham Animal Control to the wonderful police officers around our state.

A huge thank you to Westford Police Department for handling a very upsetting situation with grace, kindness and professionalism.

OFFICERS:

Thursday’s “wildlife and law enforcement” training by myself, Jane Newhouse and ACO Deni Goldman may be extended in Holyoke from 2.5 hours, to a full 4-hour half day training - to expand upon actual in-service calls and allow for more interactive Q&A and situation based responses.

There are only a few seats left available to sign up! You can access this via your Acadis Training Portal.

Protections exist for a reason. While you might find them inconvenient, they are there for THEIR protections, no different than your own protections as a human.
