🔴FLORIDA FRIENDS, PLEASE READ BEFORE
YOU HIRE A CONTRACTOR TO DO THE
REPAIRS TO YOURE HOME.🔴
This info will help you prevent contractor scams.
My husband is the Operations Manager for a restoration company in GA. Although we can’t assist you with your rebuilds in FL we can assist you with information. His company specializes in insurance claim repair work and will only charge you what the insurance company is willing to pay for the repairs. Please read below for some tips.
1. Only work with Contractors that DO NOT require any cash up front. A reputable contractor will NEVER ask for upfront money.
2. The contract that they ask you to sign should, clearly should state that they work based on the insurance payout, and you are only responsible for your deductible. That deductible gets paid to the contractor.
3. They should specialize in working directly with insurance carriers, making sure that their clients receive the proper payments to cover all repairs. This process involves completing work based on the insurance scope, and through a supplement process. They should have the ability to obtain/ negotiate the proper funds to restore their client's homes, often leaving them in better condition than they were before the loss.
3. Avoid paying contractors cash before they begin work. You only pay them once you receive payment from the insurance company.
4. Ensure that your contract does not leave you liable if insurance payments fall short of what your insurance carrier is paying. Thisnisbwhere the contractor should have experience in supplementing through your insurance to make sure they have wnjoufh funds to compete the work.
5. Follow any additional tips from your state insurance commissioner to protect your interests.
Please pass this on, If I can help in any other way, please feel free to DM or call me. Hopefully this will help you all get back whole.
