The American Bar Association has filed an amicus brief with the U.S. Supreme Court urging it to grant certiorari in the case of Anibowei v Blanche to decide whether the Fourth Amendment permits border agents to search the contents of a traveler’s cell phone without a warrant.

Summary: The Sentencing Reform Act of 1984 does not authorize a rule automatically extending a defendant’s term of supervised release when the defendant fails to report to a probation officer.

Yesterday, the Supreme Court heard arguments in Chatrie v. United States, a constitutional challenge to geofence warrants. These warrants allow the government to search the private data of millions of people without cause.

This case is the result of years of work by NACDL’s Fourth Amendment Center and federal defenders in Richmond. Thank you to Jenner & Block LLP for arguing this historic case.
