I want to thank everyone immensely for their support of my firm, for referring anyone my way for legal work, and, to my clients, for trusting me with your cases! I've received so much work that I have to put a temporary halt on accepting new clients (hired cases through my intake process).
I never thought I would be temporarily closing my intake process just five months after starting my own practice, but the only way to ensure a balance between motherhood and practicing law is keeping my caseload manageable.
I am still able to take a small amount of estate planning and probate cases, but it may be several weeks before I can get you in. Please keep in mind that I am a solo practitioner, and I am often in court or traveling between counties.
The sad truth of our legal system in West Virginia is simply that we just don't have enough attorneys, especially in smaller counties. I accept court-appointed cases in criminal and child abuse and neglect matters, and judges are truly running out of attorneys to appoint to these cases. I routinely get calls from courts outside of my practice areas who have ran out of attorneys in their county to take cases and have to start a state-wide search for attorneys - especially in abuse and neglect matters.
I'm hopeful that this temporary hiatus will give me a little extra time to streamline my intake process and prepare more resources to build my practice to help me take on new cases soon.
