Creating an estate plan is an important first step, but it's not the last.

As life changes, your estate plan should too. Marriage, divorce, welcoming a child or grandchild, purchasing a home, retirement, or other significant milestones can all affect whether your current plan still reflects your wishes.

Taking time to review your estate plan periodically helps ensure it continues to protect you, your loved ones, and everything you've worked hard to build.

Tuition paid. Dorm packed. But did you know that the moment your child turned 18, you lost the legal authority to help them in a medical or financial emergency?

It doesn't matter if you're still on their phone plan or paying their rent. Under federal law, they are a legal adult — and without the right documents in place, a nurse cannot tell you their condition, a bank cannot let you in, and a financial aid office cannot accept your signature.

Three documents fix this: a financial power of attorney, a medical power of attorney, and a HIPAA authorization. We broke down what each one does and why every family needs them before the next semester starts.

Turns out estate planning goes down easier with a c***r donut in hand.

This week neighbors packed the room for Fall Into Planning, and somewhere between the caramel apples and the Medicaid talk, a lot of people had the same realization: having a will in a drawer isn't the same as having a plan. One protects a document. The other protects your family, your home, and everything you spent a lifetime building.
