You've probably heard ––immigrants have been on hunger strike at the Delaney detention center in NJ to improve conditions and release vulnerable elderly and sick people. Protestors have come out to prevent retaliatory action against those inside but since the weekend, federal agents have been pepper-spraying people and punitively attempting to stop those leading the strike. Please take action on these demands:
1. An immediate in-person mtg w/Gov. Mikie Sherrill at Delaney Hall to directly observe conditions & hear testimony from detained people.
2. The immediate release of vulnerable detainees incl elderly, pregnant, & young people & those w/serious medical conditions.
3.Meaningful review of immigration cases & habeas filings.
4. An end to what they describe as coercive pressure to sign deportation or voluntary departure documents

And, if you're able, please go Delaney in solidarity at any time of day or night.

The work continues & the families of East Ramapo really NEED YOUR HELP! School board and budget elections are happening on May 19! In the past, we've been out-organized and the results of these votes have been to the detriment of the public schools' children. If we can significantly increase voter turnout, we can materially improve conditions.

The upcoming school budget and board elections are about improving the education and future chances of our young people, a majority of whom are immigrant children, all of whom are marginalized by systemic racism. These elections affect what happens in our classrooms, cafeterias, transportation, sports, arts programs, and student services.

We need your help to ensure our kids are receiving even the most basic services. Please support us in getting out the vote for these school board and budget elections. We are days away from election day. Join a canvass to help us flyer and help people identify their polling locations. You can also request materials to do a canvass on your own time, or join a phonebank!

While registration is not required, it helps us to know who is coming so, if you can, please use the QR code to register for a canvass.

Tonight at 6:30 pm. Rockland Legislature and the MLK Multipurpose Center are hosting a discussion on the Safety & Dignity for All Act. While this bill does not have sweeping protections for immigrants, we badly need it to pass, as a first step. We need to know why it is taking so long and what their strategy is. Immigrants' private information should not be handed over by county agencies to federal agents! Please come tonight. We especially need allies' solidarity & presence!

Si bien este proyecto de ley no ofrece protecciones de gran alcance para los inmigrantes, es sumamente necesario que se apruebe como un primer paso.
