MANTECA PD ASKS FOR PUBLIC’S HELP IN FATAL HIT AND RUN COLLISION
On October 22, 2022 at approximately 7:19 pm, Manteca PD Officers responded to a report of a vehicle vs pedestrian collision on Northgate Drive near the Tidewater Bike Path. Upon arrival, Officers located Daniel Yanez (31 of Manteca) suffering from major injuries. Officers attempted life-saving measures on Mr. Yanez prior to the arrival of EMS. He was then transported to a local hospital. Unfortunately, Mr. Yanez succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The involved vehicle fled the scene prior to the Officers’ arrival. According to witnesses, the involved vehicle was described as a pickup truck. As of the time of this press release, the identity of the driver and the location of the vehicle are not known.
Manteca PD’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) and Detectives responded to the scene and took over the investigation.
Follow-up investigation revealed that Mr. Yanez was first involved in a minor collision prior to the fatal collision. The prior collision occurred in or near the intersection of N Union Rd and Northgate Dr and involved Mr. Yanez’s motorcycle and an as-yet unidentified van. The two collisions do not appear to be related at this point, but we do need to speak with the party involved in the first collision. In short, we need to identify the party involved in the first collision as well as the party from the fatal collision. To be clear, Mr. Yanez was on foot when he was struck in the second collision.
The investigation is being conducted by the Manteca PD Traffic Unit. Our Traffic Unit is requesting that anyone with information regarding the fatal collision or the collision prior to this incident please contact Officer Dan Peters or Officer Matthew Gardette. They can be reached through MPD Dispatch at (209) 456-8101. They can also be reached via email at [email protected] or [email protected].
