PSL's Entrepreneur Assistance Clinic provides free legal assistance to startup and early-stage businesses, irrespective of any affiliation with Penn State, throughout Pennsylvania. The Legal Clinic is staffed by over twenty law students at Penn State Law who work under the supervision of several licensed lawyers. To date, the Legal Clinics have provided free business-related legal services to over

1,800 unique clients from all parts of Pennsylvania, with an average of over 6,000 hours of free services provided per year. The issues most frequently encountered in the clinic include choice of entity, entity formation, founder and initial investor agreements, shareholder agreements, loan arrangements, certain intellectual property protection, commercial real estate leasing and acquisition, operating agreements, employee management, and compliance with regulatory requirements. Additionally, the Legal Clinics have expanded the scope of offered services to add a new focus on loan, investment, and preferred-supplier arrangements that are available to traditionally underserved business owners under federal, state, and local governmental and corporate programs. The Clinics’ clients include founders with patentable inventions as well as many entrepreneurs by necessity who start businesses as a means of supporting themselves and their families. The Clinics' mission is consistent with the use of micro-entrepreneurship as an economic engine in areas of high unemployment.
