To make a payment by phone, please call 1-888-548-5546. C & L Electric Cooperative has proudly provided members in eight south Arkansas counties with reliable and affordable electricity since 1938. C & L Electric Cooperative Corporation is a non-profit business organized in 1937 by people in Cleveland and Lincoln Counties who wanted electricity and could not get it from power companies who said there was no profit from lines in sparsely populated areas. The new business was incorporated on August 16, 1938, as C & L (Cleveland & Lincoln) Electric Cooperative Corporation. A request for a loan to build a line of 90 miles with 350 signatures was first sent to Rural Electrification Administration (REA). The directors were notified that 100 miles of line would be required for approval. So they extended the line into Jefferson and Grant Counties. REA approved the new plan –having 161 miles of line and 437 signatures. The first section of line was energized December 19, 1939. At the end of the first year, C & L was serving 370 members, who used an average of 39 kWh and paid 7.9¢ per kWh. The Pace Act of 1944 made a covenant with C & L that if it would extend area coverage in its allocated territory, they could get loans for a 35-year period at 2% interest. C & L expanded rapidly after this, and soon, C & L’s lines went into eight counties; Cleveland, Lincoln, Grant, Jefferson, Bradley, Drew, Desha and Dallas. In 1955, electric cooperatives in Arkansas were given legal right by legislation to generate electricity. C & L and other cooperatives in Arkansas organized Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation (AECC), a cooperative which now provides all of C & L’s electricity at wholesale cost. Today, C & L serves over 21,850 members and owns and maintains over 4,275 miles of distribution power lines and 14 substations.

⚡ Why Are My Lights Blinking? 🐿️

We know many of you have been experiencing blinking lights lately, and we want you to know we are aware of the issue, we understand your frustration, and we’re working on it!

🐿️ The culprits? Squirrels on the move!

Believe it or not, those brief blinks are often your electric system doing exactly what it was designed to do — prevent a longer power outage!

Our electric system has protective devices designed to momentarily interrupt power when something, like a squirrel or tree limb, comes into contact with the wrong part of a power line. These devices automatically attempt to restore power, giving the animal or limb a chance to clear the line without causing a prolonged outage.

⚡ In simple terms: A quick blink is often the system trying to prevent you from being without electricity altogether!

Unfortunately, it doesn’t work every time, and sometimes an outage is unavoidable.

📶 But why does my internet go out when my lights blink?

When your power blinks, even for just a second, your home’s Wi-Fi router and internet equipment can lose power, too. When the electricity comes back on, that equipment has to restart and reconnect.

That means a one-second power blink can turn into several minutes without internet while your equipment gets back up and running. We understand how frustrating that can be, especially when you’re working from home, streaming your favorite show, or trying to get something done!

🐿️ So, what are we doing about these furry little troublemakers?

We are actively working to reduce these interruptions and doing everything we reasonably can to keep squirrels away from equipment they shouldn’t be touching!

💙 We hear you, and we understand. Blinking lights are frustrating, especially when they happen repeatedly. Trust us, they’re frustrating for us, too!

Our goal is the same as yours — safe, reliable electricity and internet service with as few interruptions as possible.
