"I WAS ARRESTED, WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?!"

Clients often ask, "what is going to happen on my next court date?"

The FIRST court date, after your arrest/summons (except for simple traffic infractions), is called an arraignment.

THIS IS NOT YOUR TRIAL DATE!

An arraignment is the formal process where the court advises you of your rights.

Meaning: what you've been charged with, the right to an attorney/what you would like to do about an attorney, and then gives you your next court date.

While it's best to hire an attorney as soon as possible, it's NOT necessary to have one for your arraignment.

You can take some time to make the right decision on the attorney that best suits your needs.
