Estate Planning Lessons From Tony Hsieh’s $500M Mystery Will

Don’t rely on assumptions — have a valid will or trust in place. If you die without clear documents, state law (and potential surprises) can end up driving the outcome. Make your will easy to verify. Use a reliable signing process, proper witnessing, and details that match your identity and real-world relationships. Control the […]

How the Federal Fair Housing Act Protects Older Adults

Takeaways:

Although age is not a protected category under the federal Fair Housing Act (FHA), many older adults are protected from housing discrimination through the law’s disability protections. The FHA applies to many types of housing and prohibits discrimination, including denied reasonable accommodations, denied reasonable modifications, unequal treatment, and certain overly broad criminal-record policies. Older […]

Planning for Low Affordability: Strategies for Homebuyers

Takeaways:

Amid record-high home prices and low affordability, the dream of homeownership is deferred for younger generations, pushing the median age of a first-time buyer to 40. Older generations hold a significant advantage, often buying homes with cash or large down payments. Meanwhile, the expected “Great Wealth Transfer” inheritance is proving to be later and […]

Long-Term Care Costs Are Hollowing Out Generational Wealth

Takeaways:

Long-term care is common and expensive — and for many families, a few years of paid care can erase decades of savings. A family member can be cost-effective and personally invested, but the role is time-consuming and can strain relationships, especially when emotions run high. Having a lawyer as your executor can add expertise and neutrality, but […]

FRAUD ALERT:

We have received multiple calls from our clients saying that “banks” have been calling them and asking for social security numbers for their beneficiaries. We contacted the banks in question and were assured that banks are NOT calling to request personal information. If you receive a call of this nature, hang up. It is a scam. Do not give them any personal information. If you do receive a call of this nature, you may also want to call your bank and let them know, so they can send out an alert to their clients.

Use simple account protection (bank alerts, account limits, and credit monitoring) to reduce damage if a scam gets through. If […]
