A special thank you to Judge Heinz Rudolf of the St. Clair County Circuit Court for taking time away from his busy docket to administer the Illinois attorney's oath to our associate, Libby Rathert. We are also grateful for the meaningful keepsake Judge Rudolf presented to commemorate the occasion and the proud traditions of the legal profession.

The Illinois Judges Association congratulates Ms. Elizabeth "Libby" Rathert on taking the oath of office and officially joining the legal profession.

The entire St. Clair County judiciary extend their sincere gratitude to Ms. Erin Winn of the Illinois Courts, Illinois Supreme Court Justice David K. Overstreet, and the Illinois Supreme Court for the opportunity to administer Libby's oath of office.

Adding to this memorable occasion, IJA Officer Heinz Rudolf presented Libby with one of the few remaining handcrafted gavels created by Judge Andreas "Andy" Matoesian, the longest-serving judge in Illinois—a meaningful symbol of the tradition, integrity, and service that define our judiciary.

This morning KT associate, Libby Rathert, was officially sworn in as a member of the Illinois Bar by Judge Heinz Rudolf in St. Clair County, IL. Judge Rudolf gifted her a commemorative gavel to celebrate the occasion. You can now see Libby defending our incredible health care providers in both Missouri and Illinois. Congratulations, Libby!

Kamykowski & Taylor congratulates our partners Mariel Taylor and Mandy Kamykowski and trial paralegal Peyton Mullinex for securing a unanimous 12-0 defense verdict in favor of 3 OB-GYN physicians following a 6-day jury trial in the Circuit Court of St. Louis County earlier this week.

Verdicts in favor of medical providers often do not get the fanfare that a plaintiff’s verdict will. There aren’t any big numbers with eye-popping zeros, nor would it be appropriate to publish victory in the courtroom photos when almost certainly the other party has experienced a difficult complication, injury or devastating loss, which we certainly don’t celebrate.

But justice is not the sole property of the first side of the V. The physical and mental toll that a lawsuit takes on a medical provider who has been sued - the feelings of shame, anxiety, stress and uncertainty - cannot be ignored.

Practicing medicine is a tough job with high stakes and ever-increasing expectations of perfect outcomes despite imperfect and unpredictable bodies, and physician burnout is a looming health care crisis. We could not be happier that the jury vindicated our clients and hope that they can once again feel pride in the career they worked so hard to be a part of, and can continue to find joy in the practice of medicine.
