With summer approaching, it is important to remember to stay safe in the heat to prevent any injuries. Hot temperatures can affect anyone but people who are more at risks are the elderly, kids and pregnant women, and people with chronic illnesses. It is also important to make sure your pets are safe and taken care of during the heat since they are more vulnerable. Try to stay cool and hydrated!

Nurses play a crucial role in the medical field. We see many cases where doctors fail to provide proper care for their patients, but nurses can be at risk for being liable as well. According to an article written by Kimberly Bonvissuto for McKnights Senior Living, nurses working for senior living type facilities saw an increase in malpractice cases in the last 5 years. From the study that was reported in the article, nurses were responsible for 12% of the closed malpractice cases.

Being understaffed and overworked are risks nurses take when entering the field. It becomes a problem when patients are being affected due to preventable issues like medication errors, poor communication, lack of monitoring, abuse, and so on.

If you or a loved one has been harmed due to medical negligence, our office has helped many clients get justice from neglect they endured in a nursing home facility. Please call for a free consultation:

According to a recent article posted by the RAPS (Regulatory Affairs Professional Society), within the last 5 years, class I recalls for medical devices have increased by 232%. Recently, Dexcom (a company who manufactures devices like continuous glucose monitors to help manage diabetes) has issued a recall for two lots of their G7 sensors that were faulty. Instead of them being destroyed, the sensors were stolen and sold to third party companies.

Some rely on certain medical devices to have a better quality of life. Having a defective device can certainly worsen medical conditions and sometimes even cause death. If you think you have a case or have experienced harm from a faulty medical device, please call our office for a free consultation.

A simple procedure to treat a wound has left the family of a teen grieving due to the negligence of medical staff. A teen was being treated for a stab wound that occurred when he was cutting wood. Routine procedure, for any wound, would be to properly clean the wound before stitching and providing antibiotics. According to the article written by the New York Post, the teen experienced complications due to the lack of treatment which led to doctors amputating his arm. Doctors had found plant matter (twigs, moss, etc.) when cutting into his arm to attempt to save his life. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.

Of course, there are risks with every procedure, but medical staff should be held accountable for their errors. Those errors can cause a lifetime of pain and suffering for the ones who experience it and their loved ones.
