Sarah Lightner, District 1 Jackson County Commissioner Sarah is the current District 1 County Commissioner. Please feel free to call or email her for any questions or concerns regarding Jackson County.

Sarah resides in Springport with her husband David and two sons, Eli and Gavin. She was previously employed as a Paralegal for Wm Burt Burleson and Barrett Law. As small business owners, Sarah and her husband own and operate a custom hay baling and wrapping operation and a deer processing facility. Sarah is currently serving her 3rd term as a County Commissioner to continue her efforts as an Activ

e member of the Community and Townships in which she resides. She has become a member of the Jackson County Republican Party and has been active with the Farm Bureau Young Farmers Group. She has participated in the Farm Bureau Washington, D.C. Legislative Seminar and the Young Farmers and Ranchers Leadership Conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Sarah is currently serving on the Michigan Association of Counties Judiciary & Public Safety Committee as the Chairperson. Sarah also was appointed by Governor Snyder in March of 2015 as the Michigan Association of Counties Representative on the Criminal Justice Policy Commission, which is a 3 year appointment. She also is the Chairwoman of the Jackson County Fair Board.

Railroad Crossing Closures, Rives Township

The Jackson County Department of Transportation, in collaboration with Rives Township and the Jackson & Lansing Railroad Co., will close Henry Road between Rives Junction Road and Churchill Road, on Monday, August 28, 2017, to reconstruct the railroad crossing and approach. The road will be closed to through traffic for approximately one week, weather permitting.

On September 6, 2017 our collaborative team will close Broughwell Road between Rives Junction Road and Churchill Road to through traffic to reconstruct another railroad crossing and approach. This closure is also expected to last approximately one week, weather permitting.

No detour routes will be posted for either closure, and motorists should seek alternate routes.

Chip Sealing and Fog Sealing Updates

JCDOT crews will finish chip sealing Francis Street in Summit Township, between Mc Devitt Avenue and East South Street.

Fog Seal crews will continue on N. Concord Road in Concord and Parma Townships, between M-60 and Michigan Avenue.

As always, please drive with caution when you see our workers. Motorists should allow for extra travel time and expect short delays.

Today, JCDOT crews will be paving on Erie Road in Concord Township. Fog seal crews will be on McCain Road in Spring Arbor Township, and North Sandstone Road in Sandstone Township.
