One year ago, a tiny baby girl was placed in a Safe Haven Baby Box here in Hendersonville.
A decision made in one of the hardest moments imaginable gave her something priceless: A future.
Not long after, I received a call from the family who had been chosen to foster her. I had the honor of photographing her newborn session, never knowing I'd be invited back a year later to photograph one of the happiest days of her life—her adoption.
Today, she is surrounded by love.
She has parents who absolutely adore her, three siblings who call her their own, grandparents who can't get enough of her (she is especially smitten with Grandpa ❤️), and a whole family that has been waiting with open arms.
This moment stopped me in my tracks—seeing her reach toward one of the firefighters who was there the day she entered this world through the Safe Haven Box.
It felt like two chapters of her story gently meeting.
To her birth mother...
If you ever happen to see this, I hope you know that your daughter is thriving. She is safe. She is cherished beyond words. She laughs, explores, is deeply loved, and has a family who celebrates every little thing about her.
Your decision was one made out of love. Because of it, this little girl has grown up surrounded by security, joy, and endless affection.
As a newborn photographer, I witness the beginning of so many stories. Very few leave an imprint on my heart the way this one has.
What a beautiful reminder that love can take many forms, and sometimes the greatest act of love is making sure a child has every opportunity to flourish.
