Construction has officially begun on the Harris County Flood Control District's T.C. Jester Stormwater Detention Basin for compartment 1B! This compartment is 1 of 3 on the east side of the project and 1 of 4 total that together will provide approximately 1,200 acre-feet of stormwater storage; that’s roughly 1,200 football fields covered in one foot of water. This portion of the project received state community-directed funding secured by State Representative Sam Harless through the Texas Water Development Board ($12 million). In addition, compartment 1B is receiving funding up to $25.9 million through the CDBG-DR program and is expected to be completed by Q2 of 2027.
