TEXAS BUSINESS OWNERS! LET ME PUT Y'ALL UP ON SOMETHING!
Now, I know everybody loves hearing the words TAX RELIEF, but before you get too excited, you better understand what that relief actually means!
The IRS announced temporary penalty relief involving dyed diesel fuel, and Texas has temporarily relaxed certain restrictions on using that fuel on public highways.
But HOLD ON!
Just because they're giving you a break on certain penalties does NOT mean the fuel is tax-free!
Let me break it down.
If you're in trucking, construction, agriculture, or another business that uses diesel fuel, here's what you need to know.
• The federal penalty relief runs from October 1 through December 31, 2026.
• Texas has temporarily allowed certain highway uses of dyed diesel.
• That Texas diesel fuel tax? 20 cents per gallon on taxable highway use. STILL APPLIES!
• And yes, you still need to keep up with your fuel purchases and business records.
See, this is why I keep telling business owners that you can't just hear something on Facebook and run with it!
You have to understand the WHOLE situation.
Because the same government that gives you relief can still expect you to pay the taxes you legally owe!
And we are NOT about to be out here creating unnecessary tax problems over something we could've handled correctly the first time.
At Nixon & Nixon Legacy, we're about protecting your business, keeping your records straight, and making sure you understand what's going on with your taxes.
Tax season is coming, but your tax responsibilities don't wait until January!
