Attention!
I have a couple quick notes I need to add!!
As most in Spencer know, I wear many hats… Notary/ Paralegal, Security Contractor, Private Investigator, etc…
Unfortunately, with so many irons in the fire, I have had to shift a large part of my work to being by appointment only regardless of it being mobile notary or in office service. I know this isn’t as convenient for some, but it was brought to my by attention that this page had our old number still linked. I’ve corrected that and linked my primary work email as well.
I appreciate you all for understanding.
Additionally, we are taking steps to absorb the SFE branding into our main LLC, Templar Strategic Solutions… This will allow us to accept credit/ debit/ ACH payments through our primary system and smooth some things out, hopefully!

Good Morning folks, I wanted to touch on a couple things this morning:

1 - Yes, SFE is still very much in business. (We're just working on a "By appointment only" status for the time being in regards to our local/ general notary services due to a very heavy scheduling load.)

2 - While we are trying our best to provide services to everyone who requests them in a timely manner, many of our larger clients are involved in real estate and other industries which require them to make extensive use of our mobile/ travelling notary and courier services. Leaving us no choice but to encourage folks to make appointments versus being able to accommodate every walk-in. (We realize that it's frustrating, but our local General Notary, Denise, is currently out of state and only leaves me to juggle everything from our in-house services to our ministerial/ officiant services along with our day to day operations such as invoicing, bookkeeping, etc.)

3 - Please understand that we are a business, not the local bank/ library/ Clerk of Court... This may sound rude, however, I must clarify - we DO CHARGE THE STATE MANDATED/ APPROVED FEE(s) PER SEAL/ NOTARIAL ACT.
ALL of our Notaries/ Officiants are duly commissioned/ ordained/ licensed by the State of West Virginia, and carry Errors and Omissions Insurance - Each Notary is required by our policy to carry a minimum of $25,000 in coverage and as a company we carry a minimum of $1,000,000 in coverage (as well, our Mobile/ Travelling Notaries attend regular Continuing Education training as needed to conduct loan closings related to real estate transactions)

4 - Whether it's one of the Owners, one of our 1099 subcontractors, or an employee - ALL signings/ Notarial Acts/ Ministerial Acts must meet ALL state requirements to complete (Photo ID, ALL signers present, etc) and while your patronage is greatly appreciated, please understand that NO ONE associated with SFE is required to tolerate abuse, vulgar language, rude behavior or mistreatment and as such We reserve the right to refuse service to any party who cannot conduct themselves in a civilized manner. We also reserve the right and uphold the responsibility to refuse any service which may be directly or indirectly be perceived as immoral, unethical or plainly illegal at the Notarial Official's discretion. NO EXCEPTIONS.

5 - While, I am a Paralegal and member of the ABA, we are NOT attorneys and we do NOT provide legal advise or practice law in any manner. We, as Notaries are simply there to validate and verify the identities of parties affixing their seal (signature) to a document, we are NOT there to review the document or discuss its content.

6 - Due to our scheduling load, our Social Media accounts are not monitored as closely as we would prefer, if you need to schedule an appointment or confirm availability, it is best to call our business line at 681.612.0253 or my direct cell at 252.361.9979 (I will not be accepting appointments on the 21st of November, Mobile Appointments outside of our local area on November 24th or 26th or any appointments on Thanksgiving Day.)

*** We, of course, do honor our discount policy for the patients of Dr Myers, clients of Smith Wrecker Service, and as always - our Educators, Military Veterans and First Responders/ LEO. ***

Thank You,
Jason M. Spaur, NSA

The double edged sword of adulting…
When you own a moderately successful, year and half old business that you’ve busted your @$$ to build up even thriving during a global pandemic… receive notice that invoices have processed through, and then watch more than 40% of that revenue go right back out to cover the insurances, annual background for FNTG (my real estate people will understand) etc that you have to pay the first of every month... then realize that 25%+\- of that went out to 1099 subcontractor Notaries Public…
Yes, it stings and means I’ll have to avoid excess spending and watch my logistics a little closer the next couple weeks, and that sucks… but it also means my client base and business reputation are growing. Out of the last 10 days, I’ve had ONE that I was not on the road/ stayed local…
Not complaining, just putting it into perspective for folks…
Yes, I run a business & yes, it’s lucrative…
Yes, I preside over $1mil+ in transactions monthly… but… there’s a great deal of overhead folks never know about.
If you engage in a transaction (real estate or otherwise) where you see anything from $100-$500 listed as a “notary fee” please realize, you’re not hiring a “general notary” - 9 out of 10, you’re hiring a signing agent. Yes, we do general notary work… but, we also carry minimum, $25k in Errors and Omissions Insurance, many states we must also be bonded, and the ones like myself who operate a full signing service carry a minimum blanket policy of $1mil in Errors and Omissions insurance in addition to that $25k + individual policy that we and each of our 1099 subcontractors carry…
We take myriad training courses, some cost the same as nothing, others cost hundreds… annually. Some states require attorneys to attend & while they do little or nothing at the actual signing, they get a portion of the fees for that appointment… yes, states could change that, but trust me, the Bar Association would fight it tooth and nail. Other states have specific notary language that must be in each document, specific ways things must be sealed, etc… in other words: NO the general Notary Public at the bank, DMV, library, etc… is not necessarily equipped to handle a vast majority of these transactions, so when you say “My bank would do this for free…” you *might* be right… but, are you really willing to gamble with six figures and up on an error being made due to a lack of functional knowledge regarding the transaction?
As Notaries/ Signing Agents we can’t give legal or financial advice… what we can do as professional NSA/ LSAs is actually explain to you what the documents are, their general purpose, where to find pertinent information, etc…
