Seriously though, good credit can make or break your ability to buy a home together. 🏡

When you apply for a mortgage as a couple, lenders typically look at both of your credit scores — and the lower score often carries more weight than you'd think. A lower credit score can mean a higher interest rate, a larger down payment requirement, or even a flat-out denial.

Here's why it matters so much:
💳 Interest rates — Even a 20–30 point difference in credit score can cost you tens of thousands of dollars over the life of a 30-year loan.
📋 Loan approval — Lenders use your credit score to determine how risky you are as a borrower. Bad credit = higher risk = harder approval.
📉 Debt-to-income ratio — Poor credit history often signals higher existing debt, which affects how much house you qualify for.

✅ Pro tip: Before applying, check both of your scores. If one partner has significantly better credit, it may be worth applying under their name alone — if their income alone qualifies. Otherwise, take 6–12 months to build the weaker score before applying together.

I thought I was just moving from the Midwest to South Carolina…turns out I changed my quality of life. Here’s what changed👇

1️⃣ The winter blues disappeared I didn’t realize how much gray skies and freezing temps were affecting my mood until I had year-round sunshine. Living in South Carolina means natural light almost every day. No more seasonal depression! No more counting down to spring!

2️⃣ I gained access to everything within reach This one SURPRISED me! In the Midwest, a change of scenery meant hours of driving. In South Carolina? The mountains are an hour away and the beach is just 3. Hiking on Saturday. Toes in the sand on Sunday. That’s just life here now.

3️⃣ I adapted to the heat and humidity faster than I expected Everyone warns you about South Carolina weather. And yes, it’s hot! But your body adapts. Within a month or two, the humidity felt normal. Now 75° feels “cool.” And when summer heat peaks? The mountains are right there for a quick escape — the elevation keeps things noticeably cooler when you need a break. People love to say real estate agents have flexible schedules.

And technically, that’s true.

What they don’t see is everything behind it.

There’s no salary. No guaranteed paycheck.
Every month the income meter resets to zero.
Every deal has to be created from scratch.

There’s no HR department (unless you’re married to an HR professional).
No janitorial staff.
No marketing team.
No paid time off.

You are every department.

My car has been my mobile office for years. Contracts signed in parking lots. Calls taken between showings. Emails answered while sitting outside the next appointment.

Most days meals happen alone… if they happen at all.

And after enough years in this business, you learn something most people never think about: which restrooms across town are spotless… and which ones you avoid at all costs.
