Ms. Gabi Jackson
Gabi grew up in Horn Lake, Mississippi, and considers DeSoto County home.
Gabi obtained her high school diploma from Horn Lake High School in Horn Lake, MS. After graduating, she attended Mississippi State University (MSU), where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Criminology.
At MSU, she was the President of the Sociological Student’s Association, where she organized community service events, such as Operation Christmas Child, and visits to the Sally Kate Winters Family Services, an emergency foster home for at-risk children. She interned at the Mississippi Alcohol and Substance Education Program, a DUI intervention program.
Gabi is currently a rising third-year law student (3L) at the University of Mississippi School of Law. She is the former President of the Constance Slaughter-Harvey Chapter of the Black Law Students Association. In her position, Gabi helped organize a fundraiser to Build A Home for Freddie Smith, a homeless veteran in Vicksburg, MS. As a 1L, Gabi served as the 1L Representative for the organization. She is also a member of the University of Mississippi School of Law's Negotiation Board and a Business Law Fellow. She was one of ten applicants chosen as a Fellow and has taken specialized business courses related to writing and corporations
During the Winter Internal Negotiation Competition of the Negotiation Board, Gabi was selected as Top 4 out of 24 negotiators and moved on to the final round of the Internal Competition. She is a member of OUTLaw, the school’s LGBT+ support organization.
In the summer of 2020, Gabi worked for the National Sea Grant Law Center doing legal research in order to aid small businesses in fisheries and marine life, as they navigated COVID-19. This included writing blog posts for marine and fishery businesses to keep them updated on developing COVID-19 legislation and writing memos on lawsuits filed by employees against businesses, with a special focus on maritime operations, laws, and developments.
Gabi is a first-generation student to attend a university, as well as obtain a professional degree. The experiences and lessons learned in obtaining her undergraduate degree and pursuit of her law degree have filled Gabi with a lifelong passion for helping others and giving back to her community. Service stands at the forefront of her values. She looks forward to continuing her education, experience, and learning while interning with The Washington Law Firm, PLLC this summer.
