📝 A Day in the Life of a Mobile Notary: The One That Got Away (Legally, That Is!)

Yesterday, we got a call that left us… well, let’s just say, a little stunned. Someone urgently needed a Power of Attorney notarized at a hospital. Not uncommon. But here’s the catch—the person granting the power was already placed in an induced sleep, never to wake up again.

Now, we completely understand that family situations can be complicated. Sometimes, people want to make things right at the last minute, especially when next of kin might not be the ideal choice. But unfortunately (and legally), notarizing a document requires a conscious, aware, and willing signer—and no, "they would’ve wanted this" doesn’t quite hold up in court.

So, while we always do our best to help, there are just some things that even the best notary can’t legally do—like notarizing for someone who’s no longer… well, available for comment.

Moral of the story? Plan ahead! If you or a loved one need important legal documents notarized, do it while everyone is still awake and legally capable. Because once you hit do not disturb mode indefinitely, there’s not much a notary can do. 😉
