May signed Form I-918 Supplement B from law enforcement?

That certification is an important part of many U visa cases, but it does not grant status by itself and does not guarantee USCIS approval.

The applicant must still establish the qualifying crime, substantial physical or mental abuse, helpfulness, admissibility or an available waiver, and the other legal requirements.

Because annual visa numbers are limited, the process can be long.

Protect copies of the report, certification, and supporting evidence, and plan for changes in contact information.

Naglingkod ka ba sa U.S. armed forces?

Special naturalization provisions may apply to certain current or former service members, including different residence or physical-presence rules depending on the period and character of service.

Military service does not erase every requirement, and discharge history, service certification, good moral character, and other facts still matter.

Some qualifying family members may also have separate protections or processes.

Bring your service records and immigration history for a complete review.

If you are considering asylum, the filing date matters.

In general, a person must apply within one year of the last arrival in the United States unless an exception applies for changed circumstances or extraordinary circumstances and the application is filed within a reasonable period.

Having a difficult story does not automatically excuse a late filing. Evidence of arrival dates, changes in conditions, medical issues, prior status, or other circumstances may be important.

Get individualized advice early rather than waiting for the deadline to become the issue.

VAWA self-petitioning is often misunderstood.

It may be available to certain abused spouses and children of U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents, and to certain abused parents of adult U.S. citizens.

The protection is not limited by gender. A qualifying person can file without the abusive relative’s knowledge or participation, and special confidentiality protections apply.

Evidence can take many forms; a police report is not the only possible proof. Safety comes first—use a secure device and safe mailing address when seeking help.

J-2 spouse or qualifying child ka?

J-2 status by itself is not permission to work.

An eligible J-2 dependent generally must apply for and receive an Employment Authorization Document before starting employment.

The application should explain that the income is not needed to support the J-1 exchange visitor. Work cannot begin just because the application was filed.

Also check the program end date and any other restrictions that may affect the family’s plans.

STEM graduate ka and considering the 24-month OPT extension?

The degree is only part of the analysis. The employer generally must be enrolled in E-Verify, the job must be directly related to the qualifying STEM degree, and the student and employer complete Form I-983 with training goals and required evaluations.

Material changes may need to be reported through the school. Freelance arrangements or an employer that cannot provide the required supervision may create problems.

Coordinate with the DSO before filing or changing employment.

IMMIGRATION IS MORE THAN PAPERWORK. 🇺🇸

Behind every form is a story.

A family waiting to be together.
A professional building a new future.
A nurse pursuing an opportunity far from home.

Someone crossing oceans and carrying years of hopes, sacrifices, and dreams with them.

Hindi lang ito tungkol sa mga dokumento. It’s about where you’ve been—and where you’re hoping to go next.

And when the immigration process feels complicated or uncertain, you deserve guidance that looks beyond the paperwork and understands the person behind the case.

At Maybelle Francisco Law, we’re here to provide clear, compassionate immigration guidance and help you understand your next steps.

Your journey deserves guidance. Your story matters.

May new employer while in H-1B status?

In some cases, an eligible H-1B worker may begin working for the new employer after USCIS receives a properly filed, nonfrivolous petition—without waiting for final approval.

But portability has conditions, and travel, status history, gaps in employment, and a later denial can change the risk. A job offer alone does not activate portability.

The new employer should complete the filing correctly, and the worker should understand the timeline before leaving the current role.
