Worried that receiving benefits could hurt your immigration case? Before you make changes, find out whether the public charge rule applies to you.

Not every immigration case is subject to this rule. Receiving assistance does not automatically mean your case will be denied.

At Christopher & De Leon Law Office, we take the time to understand your history, explain what matters, and advocate for you. You deserve clear answers and careful guidance when your family’s future is at stake.

“My I-130 was approved. Am I legal now?”

An approved family petition is an important step. By itself, it does not grant legal status, permission to work, or protection from removal.

Some people can apply for a green card in the U.S. Others need consular processing, and some need a waiver. Your immigration history matters.

Save this post, keep your approval notice, and review your next step before making travel plans with a qualified immigration attorney. 414.751.0051

Good news for Salvadorans with TPS: September 9 came and went, and TPS protection continues.

A lot of people spent the last few weeks wondering what would happen when the deadline arrived. DHS had previously said El Salvador's TPS designation was set to end September 9.

But DHS didn't make the required determination before the deadline. That's important because the INA already tells us what happens next.

Under INA § 244(b)(3)(C), when the government does not make the required decision about whether a country's TPS designation should continue, the designation is automatically extended for another six months.

For El Salvador, that takes the designation through March 9, 2027, unless DHS takes further action.

DHS has now said that Salvadorans currently in the United States under TPS remain protected while we wait for its next announcement. USCIS's current TPS page also says that protection includes work authorization.

We're still waiting for some important details, particularly about EADs and re-registration. We'll keep following those developments and share them as soon as we have reliable information.

For now, the biggest takeaway is simple:

El Salvador TPS did not end on September 9. The six-month extension happened because the INA provides for it when the government does not make the required determination.

⚖️ INA § 244(b)(3)(C)

📅 August brought important immigration changes. September brings even more deadlines. Our attorneys are tracking what matters—and breaking it down for you.

Immigration policy is moving quickly, and it can be difficult to keep up. Here are 6 developments on our radar:

📌 Aug. 5 — USCIS RFE/NOID policy changes
🌎 Aug. 21 — 75-country immigrant visa pause lifted
📄 I-864 — Form edition requirements changed
🇸🇻 Sept. 9 — El Salvador TPS ends
🎓 Sept. 15 — Changes affecting F-1/J-1 duration of status
⚖️ Sept. 18 — Public-charge changes

Why do these updates matter? Because immigration cases are often decided in the details—the evidence submitted, the form used, the deadline met, and the individual immigration history behind the case.

That’s also why we created Immigration in 60: to take complicated immigration developments and explain them in a way that is factual, useful, and easier to understand.

❤️ Please save and share this post with your family, friends, coworkers, and community. Someone you know may be affected by one of these changes.

To our Salvadoran community: this is an important update.

El Salvador TPS ends September 9, 2026, and we know many people are worried about what this means for themselves and their families.

Please remember: the end of TPS does not, by itself, tell you what happens next in your individual immigration case. Your immigration history matters. You may have another status, a pending case, or another potential option—but every case is different.

If you're worried, get the facts about your own situation before making important decisions about your future.

❤️ Please share this with your family, friends, coworkers, church members, and others in your community. Someone you know may be worried right now and need to hear this.
