One reason moving from Tahoe to the Carson valley is worth it. Enjoy a Friday afternoon in South lake in August. During a concert weekend.

There are pros and Cons to anywhere you live. I do miss spring time in Tahoe that is a magical time. I miss being able to bike to the beach from my house. Yes that was nice. But the reality of full time living in Tahoe got old after a while, or maybe I just grew up, or did Tahoe just change that much? I know many people I met here when I first moved to Tahoe have left the area. Many moved back to "home", some moved to different states. But many people leave. Some come back, some never do. Others moved to the Carson Valley before I did.

A few of my friends are still here in Tahoe. They are the locals that are holding on to the dream. God bless them I love you guys and miss you. Because Tahoe runs on Locals and tourists it's an interesting combination. It's not an easy place to live year round. Living in the Valley is like being in the suburbs of a city. Close enough but not in the madness 24/7 .

So where would you live full time? What's your priority right now?

Carson valley life, it's different down here, but in a good way. I thought I would miss the trees in Tahoe. I don't, because pine trees are evil ( that's a story for another time).

The sky down here is so beautiful. When I worked at the Tahoe Beach club I saw some amazing lake front sunsets. I am a sunset connoisseur. Yes watching the sun's rays reflect off the lake is beautiful. That said watching the colors of the surrounding mountains change all around you as the sky lights up and then cools down is it's own kind of magic that never gets old. Down here anyone can find a place to enjoy the view.

Anywhere you live will have its pros and cons.

North Lake Tahoe is a truly special region—a collection of small towns steeped in rich history. Take the iconic Cal Neva, once Frank Sinatra's legendary private hideaway for celebrities and high rollers. Underground tunnels still run beneath the property from its mob-era past, so it is no surprise that parts of The Godfather Part II were filmed in the area. With the Cal Neva set to reopen in 2027, it is exciting to see these historic landmarks finally coming back to life.

​Then there is the old Biltmore, built in 1948, which always felt a bit like a castle. I was lucky enough to visit before it closed. Despite a history plagued by financial trouble, the property has incredible potential, and I hope to see it reopen one day—haunted or not!

​Just down the road, the Crystal Bay Club offers a genuine step back in time. Still open and hosting cozy local events, this classic spot is a great place to pull over and take a break (though keep in mind it’s adults-only, given the casino floor).

​Further along, Kings Beach delivers a classic, old-school Tahoe vibe. It is a charming town with a fantastic local ice cream shop, though summer parking can be a challenge. The roundabouts take some getting used to, but they keep traffic moving smoothly—just keep an eye out for pedestrians!

​Finally, for outdoor enthusiasts, Northstar Tahoe is a haven for mountain biking and hiking. With extensive trails—some accessible via ski lifts, others connecting quiet surrounding neighborhoods—it is easy to spend the whole day exploring. Plus, the higher elevation keeps the mountain air refreshingly cool.

Will it happen, will they find a way to stop corporations from buying up homes and becoming landlords? I know when I was buying a home in 2022 it was impossible for me to compete with these corporations that would come in with cash and win the deal. A lot of these sell your house fast business for cash are probably selling to these guys. I am not 100% sure. But this article is real, maybe there will be a change for the American people. Don't give up the America Dream.

A little thing to know if you are looking to buy/own a lake front on Lake Tahoe. Or looking to buy a home on a hill. This lift stations that collect black water and pump it up to the street where the sewer line is are very common in Tahoe especially mountain homes and lake front. Managing these lake front homes has taught me all about it. You learn a lot when you manage Airbnbs.
