2026 World Polio Day IS COMING! — 24 OCTOBER

Every year on October 24, Rotarians and partners around the world come together to mark World Polio Day, not simply to celebrate how far we have come, but to remind ourselves of the children who still need our protection.

We have come incredibly far. Polio is no longer the threat it once was. But until every child, everywhere, is protected, our work is not finished.

World Polio Day is our opportunity to turn commitment into action, compassion into impact, and awareness into hope.

HERE ARE SOME IDEAS TO MAKE WORLD POLIO DAY UNFORGETTABLE:

• Donate mobility aids to polio survivors: Support survivors with tricycles, wheelchairs or other mobility equipment that can help them live with greater independence and dignity.

• Host an End Polio Tricycle Rally: Bring together polio survivors, Rotarians, young people and community members for a powerful awareness rally.

• Organize an End Polio Walk: Walk through your community carrying banners and placards with one simple message: "END POLIO NOW!"

• Cycle to End Polio: Organize a cycling challenge and invite individuals, clubs, businesses and corporate organizations to participate and raise funds.

• Host a Para-Sports Competition: Celebrate the strength, resilience and achievements of polio survivors through football, basketball, table tennis or other inclusive sporting activities.

• Plant Trees for a Polio-Free Future: Plant trees in schools and communities and dedicate each tree to the vision of a world free from polio.

• Wear Red for Polio: Invite Rotarians, schools, companies and community members to wear campaign colours and donate towards polio eradication.

• Take Polio to Schools: Organize debates, quizzes, drama, essay and drawing competitions to educate children about vaccination and polio eradication.

• End Polio Concert: Bring together musicians, comedians, spoken-word artists and influencers for an evening of entertainment, awareness and fundraising.

• Lunch with Polio Survivors: Create a space where survivors can share their stories, experiences and hopes while supporters listen, connect and show solidarity.

• Light Up for Polio: Partner with landmarks, hotels, businesses and public buildings to light up for polio and create a powerful visual symbol of solidarity.

• End Polio Now Car Parade: Decorate cars with End Polio Now messages and take the campaign through major streets and communities.

• End Polio Now Boat Regatta: Where appropriate, organize a branded boat awareness event to take the message of eradication onto the waterways.

• Art for a Polio-Free World: Invite children and artists to create artwork depicting their vision of a world without polio, then exhibit or auction the pieces to raise funds.

• Faces of the Fight: Tell the stories of vaccinators, health workers, volunteers, survivors, parents and community leaders who have contributed to the fight against polio.

• ₦1,000 for Polio Challenge: Challenge thousands of Nigerians to contribute a small amount. Small donations can become a powerful force when we all give.

• Corporate Sponsor-a-Community Campaign: Invite businesses to support vaccination awareness, community mobilization and other polio activities in underserved communities.

• End Polio Installation: Create a large public art installation spelling "END POLIO NOW" or representing children protected from the disease.

• 24-Hour Digital Fundraiser: For 24 hours, fill social media with polio stories, facts, survivor testimonies, expert conversations, donor messages and clear calls to action.

BUT ABOVE ALL…
Whatever you choose to do, make it personal.

Behind every statistic is a child.

Behind every vaccination is a parent who wants their child to grow, learn, walk, play and dream.

Behind every community we reach is the possibility of a future where no child ever has to experience the devastating effects of polio.

We are closer than ever. But “almost there” is not the same as “there.”

So this World Polio Day, let’s not simply celebrate the progress we have made.

Let’s raise our voices.

THE WHEEL THAT UNITES US

The Rotary Wheel is recognised around the world—not simply as a symbol, but as a reminder of what we can achieve together.

Across borders, cultures and professions, Rotarians share one purpose: to serve, to care and to create lasting change.

Wherever the need exists, Rotary brings people together to turn compassion into action and hope into impact.

The Wheel connects us.
Service defines us.
Together, we make a difference.

One Wheel. One Purpose. A World of Service.
