Asurion to Pay $50,000 to Settle EEOC Disability Discrimination Lawsuit –In addition to monetary relief, Asurion is required to PROVIDE TRAINING to its employees on its obligations under the law and REVIEW/MODIFY its ANTI-DISCRIMINATION POLICY. The basis of the action: the Company abruptly ended the applicant’s telephone interview for a customer care position upon learning that she is paralyzed from the waist down. She applied 3 other times and all applications were rejected.

Department Of Labor Releases Proposed Overtime Rule Changes: Workers making less than $35,308 would be eligible for overtime pay under proposed changes to the overtime rule. If the rule is finalized, employers will reclassify more than one million workers.

Massachusetts' paid leave programs are set to be funded as of July 1st through a new payroll tax of 0.63 percent. Employers and employees will each pay a portion of the cost. Proposed regs will be issued by March 31, 2019 but most leave programs will not begin until 2021. More info to come.
