If you’ve driven the Downtown Connector lately, you know the “gash” that has divided our city for 70 years. Now, the vision to reconnect Downtown and Midtown is officially moving from concept to construction.

🔹 What’s happening right now (March 2026)
The transformation is underway. With the new governing board at Stitch, Inc. seated in late January, the project has entered its final pre‑construction phase. Phase 1 — the “Heart of the Stitch” — is confirmed as shovel‑ready for Summer 2026, with completion expected by 2030.

🔹 What this means for Atlanta
17 Acres of New Green Space — An elevated park stretching from Ted Turner Drive to Piedmont Avenue, capping the Connector.

The Heart (Phase 1) — A 5‑acre park near the Civic Center MARTA station featuring native gardens, a Gateway Pavilion with food service, and an interactive water feature.

Connectivity Restored — For the first time in decades, residents will be able to walk or bike seamlessly between neighborhoods long separated by the interstate.
