𝐒𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐏𝐃 𝐭𝐨 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐃𝐖𝐈 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐓𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭

Love 'em or hate 'em, the Slidell Police Department is stepping up efforts to prevent impaired driving with a DWI checkpoint this weekend. No excuses! If you're drinking, get a designated driver (D.D.)!

Here are some FAQs and comments about DWI checkpoints:

1. 𝗤: 𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘄 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗗𝗪𝗜 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀?
A: Contrary to popular belief, we don't have to announce the location of a checkpoint publicly. The law requires you to announce that a checkpoint is ahead at the actual checkpoint location.

2. 𝗤: 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘁? 𝗪𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁?
A: The goal is prevention. This announcement makes people think twice before driving impaired. Plus, we have roving patrols!

3. 𝗤: 𝗜𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝘆 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀?
A: The U.S. Supreme Court says no.

4. 𝗤: 𝗬𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆!
A: It's about saving lives. If we prevent just one tragedy, it’s worth it. We’re not here for revenue; we’re here for safety.

5. 𝗤: 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱?
A: The Louisiana Highway Safety Commission funds the manpower for the checkpoints and extra patrols through a grant.

6. 𝗤: 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝘅𝗽𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆!
A: Everyone is entitled to their opinion. An overwhelming majority of our citizens think otherwise.

7. 𝗤: 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝗦𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗣𝗗!

Charles Coburn McMillin, aged 79, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2026, just 4 weeks shy of his 80th birthday. Charles was a United States Marine who proudly and bravely volunteered to serve his country in 2 tours in Vietnam with an artillery unit. He later served as a police officer in numerous jurisdictions. As his friends and family knew well, he was a man of strong opinions. He loved his 1969 Barracuda and enjoyed attending Cruising the Coast (a yearly event he shared with his beloved brother, the late Daniel McMillin) and countless other local classic/muscle car events. The friends he made at these events, and in the groups that shared his love of classic cars, were an important part of his life. He will be laid to rest on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 11:00am, at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell (at Camp Villere). There will be a brief on-site committal ceremony with complete military honors. Charles’s son, Robert McMillin, and his family, would like to invite friends to attend and pay final respects. Donations and volunteering are encouraged in lieu of flowers. Opportunities for both can be found at:
