Participants evaluated prototype devices and provided feedback to developers through the TBI Field Assessment Program. The goal is to help first responders identify traumatic brain injuries and manage complex neurological trauma when specialized medical care may not be immediately available.

Veterans need access to innovative treatments and a more accountable appeals system.

H.R. 9237 has the potential to become one of the most consequential veterans’ laws since the PACT Act. MVA urges Congress to make it as strong and effective as possible.

Military-Veterans Advocacy extends our sincere gratitude and best wishes to Mike Yates as he steps down from our Board of Directors.

Mike was a key member of the VA team. Starting back when were solely a Blue Water Navy group he rose to fame in pushing the need for restoring Blue Water Navy benefits in Washington and in the media. Prior to the merger with MVA, Miike rose to be Commander of the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Association.

After the success with the Procopio v Wilkie court case, Mike volunteered his time to assist veterans with Dead Reckoning which went beyond the VA's Ship Locator Tools. Hundreds of veterans owe their benefits directly to Mike's efforts.

We appreciate Mike’s service, time, and commitment to MVA and to the veterans and families we serve. His contributions have been valued, and we wish him continued success in all that lies ahead.

Thank you, Mike, for your service to all of us. We wish you fair winds and following seas as you embark on your retirement.

Sad News from Military-Veterans Advocacy

It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of Dr. Wayne Dwernychuk, PhD, of Smoky Lake, Alberta. Dr. Wayne died from prostate cancer caused by exposure to Agent Orange. A dedicated scientist with Hatfield Industries, he spent years surveying the former Republic of Vietnam to document the enduring impact of Agent Orange. His work came at great personal risk, and ultimately cost him his life. He was 81.

I first met Dr. Wayne during our effort to restore benefits for Blue Water Navy Vietnam veterans. Over countless emails, he patiently taught me the science behind the herbicide and its effects on human health. His expertise was indispensable to the MVA team throughout our decade-long fight in Congress and the courts. Without his guidance, we may not have prevailed in Procopio v. Wilkie, the landmark case that extended benefits to 90,000 veterans.

Dr. Wayne never stopped advocating. He worked alongside us to secure coverage for victims of military herbicide exposure in Guam, American Samoa, Johnston Island, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Korea. He continued to support our efforts as we pursue recognition for those affected in Okinawa and Panama. Every victory we achieved was also his.

Whenever I reached out for expert analysis or reports, he responded without hesitation—and always refused compensation. His generosity, integrity, and unwavering commitment made him a true hero to me and to all victims of herbicide exposure.

God bless you, Wayne. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.

The family requests that donations be made to support scientific advancement in the treatment of prostate cancer.

While MVA supports deficit reduction, the federal PAYGO system has not proven to be an effective budget-control tool. Without an available Congressional Budget Office report, it is also impossible to fully evaluate the financial impact of the proposed offsets.

MVA has offered Congress better funding alternatives, including recapturing unused end-of-year federal funds and imposing a small additional fee on filed tax returns.

We can expand protections for veterans without reducing benefits for others. MVA urges Congress to remove Section 108 and preserve the benefits our veterans have earned through their service.
