The Highland Mardi Gras Parade At Our Office

We would like to address the recent situation regarding the stray dog frequently seen near our office. Our office allowed the mama dog to stay under our building, fed her, and provided water to her, until the puppies were old enough to be adopted.

However, our office obviously cannot continue to be a home for the mama dog. The odds are high that she will get hit by a motor vehicle, if the situation doesn’t change.

While many of the people living in the Highland area have shown incredible empathy by providing food, we request that we cease this practice for several key reasons:

1. Improper Care: Feeding stray animals can inadvertently contribute to poor health. The dog may not receive a balanced diet, which is essential for its well-being.
2. Behavioral Issues: Regular feeding can lead to increased anxiety and territorial behavior. This can pose risks for both the dog and those in our office/community.
3. Wildlife Attraction: Leftover food can attract other animals and insects creating a larger issue with strays and pest control.
4. Professional Help: Strays are best managed by animal shelters equipped to provide the necessary care and rehabilitation, ensuring a safe and healthy transition for the animal.

We want to assure you that we were able to find homes for several of the 7 puppies. A few of the puppies are in the care of the Humane Society and are happy and healthy. They are seeking homes for those puppies.

We have also involved the local animal shelter, and they are ready to assist in caring for the mama dog. Please do not interfere with the animal shelter employees.

Thank you for your understanding and compassion. Together, we can ensure that the well-being of the mama dog is handled in the best way possible.

Happy New Year!
