SCAM NOTICE
Sheriff Julian Whittington and the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office are warning the public about an ongoing scam targeting family members and loved ones of recently arrested individuals.
Scammers are using publicly available booking information to contact relatives while falsely claiming to be law enforcement officers, jail personnel, attorneys, or bail bondsmen. They often claim they can assist with reducing a bond, expediting a release, preventing additional charges, or securing the release of an inmate if payment is made immediately over the phone or through digital payment methods such as Cash App, Venmo, PayPal, gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency.
Do not be fooled.
The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office, nor any legitimate law enforcement agency, will ever request payment over the phone or through digital payment applications in exchange for an inmate’s release, bond reduction, or any other law enforcement service.
If you receive one of these calls:
• Do not send money
• Do not provide personal or financial information
• Hang up immediately
• Contact the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office directly to verify any claims at (318) 965-2203
Scammers often use high-pressure tactics, claiming that immediate action is required and attempting to create panic or fear. Their goal is to get victims to act before verifying the information.
Sheriff Whittington encourages everyone to stay vigilant, educate family members about these scams, and share this information with others. A few moments spent verifying information can prevent the loss of hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
When in doubt, hang up and call the Sheriff's Office directly, 318-965-2203
