Great talk from a great guy!

Today Shoreline Rotary welcomed one of its newest members, Joe Cunningham, to the podium for his classification speech. Joe spoke about his life and work as an advocate, fundraiser for non-profits, and community connector. Joe is already contributing his expertise and experience as he joined president-elect Robert Brouillard’s fundraising committee. Welcome Joe!

Our rainy season, after a pleasant delay, has begun with a vengeance. Unfortunately, this can result in water creeping into condos and townhouses. HOAs and their management companies are often not interested in, or capable of, making things right. The leak(s) must be repaired and any mold must be remediated. If you have this problem and your HOA is not addressing it, contact me. I can get things moving.

It's summer in the Seattle area, with Seafair well under way. However, my clients' needs aren't on vacation.

I'm currently assisting a number of clients in connection with "deals gone bad" - purchase and sale agreements, commercial leases, contracts for services, etc. - that result in disputes, if not litigation, instead of a win/win outcome.

Guardianships:

I last posted on the subject of estate planning and noted that Durable Financial and Health Care Powers of Attorney allow a person (chosen by the person granting the Powers of Attorney) to make important decisions for a person who becomes unable to do so. When such POAs are not in place at the time the person becomes incapacitated, it may be necessary for a guardian to be appointed. The guardian, often an adult son or daughter, is obligated and empowered to ensure that the incapacitated person's financial, medical and other basic needs are met, while also providing as much liberty and autonomy as possible. Though estate planning is much preferable, a guardianship allows an incapacitated person to live a safe and comfortable life. I would be happy to discuss the need for a guardianship with you.
