I understand why so many victims post about abuse anonymously. The fear of retaliation for coming forward publicly is real, and it can be devastating. And until Marsy’s Law was adopted in 2020, victims had very little control over whether their abuser was even prosecuted.

But times have changed. Victims now have constitutionally protected rights that give them a formidable voice in the justice process.

If you or someone you know has been a victim of a crime, I recommend reporting it to law enforcement as soon as possible. I also understand that for some people that step feels overwhelming, anxiety-ridden, or simply impossible because of trust issues.

If that’s you, you can also reach out to me or any victims’ advocacy attorney who can walk you through your rights and the process of reporting. Attorneys are bound by confidentiality, so you can get the information without risking public exposure. Then once you are armed with information, you can at least map out your next steps.

I don’t charge victims for consultations. My first and foremost goal is to arm victims with the information they need to make informed choices about how to proceed.

To survivors specifically: Posting anonymously might feel good in the moment, but it is unlikely to result in actual justice. You now have options and mandated protections under the law. And you have so many people willing to support you should you choose that path.

When a crime makes the news, we hear much about the accused but less about the people who may have been harmed.

Today, our community is confronting disturbing allegations involving a local teacher and child sexual abuse material. As this investigation moves forward, I want victims and their families to know something important:

Your rights matter. Your voice matters. And you have the right to understand what is happening in the criminal justice system.

If you believe you may have been victimized by someone currently under investigation—or if you have experienced a crime and aren’t sure what your rights are—you can reach out.

You don’t have to have all the answers.
You don’t have to know what questions to ask.
And you don’t have to face the process alone.

I help victims understand their rights and navigate the criminal justice system with an advocate in their corner.

If you need help, I’m here to listen.
