Today, East Tennessee and the entire world... lost a true treasure.

Long before I fully understood what Dolly Parton meant to the Smokies, she gave me a memory I would carry for a lifetime. In 1987, my kindergarten class had the opportunity to appear in a Dollywood television commercial. There I was, a little girl in a yellow shirt riding the Rampage, never realizing just how special that moment would become.

I grew up watching Dolly’s movies, singing her songs, and admiring the woman behind it all. She never forgot where she came from, and she never stopped giving back to the people and communities that helped shape her. Through Dollywood, the Imagination Library, her generosity after the wildfires, and countless acts of kindness that may never be known, she changed lives far beyond the stage.

Dolly belonged to the world, but here in the Smokies, she always felt like she belonged to us. She represented the very best of East Tennessee... faith, kindness, strength, humility, and a love for home.

Her voice may be silent, but her songs, her generosity, and the light she gave this world will live on for generations.

Rest peacefully, Dolly. Thank you for the music, the memories, and for always making the Smokies proud. You will be deeply missed and forever loved. 🦋💛
