If you’re neurodivergent, you may have heard that EMDR therapy can help with trauma, anxiety, and distressing memories. You may also wonder whether it would actually work for you. The short answer is yes: EMDR can support neurodivergent clients in ways that feel safer, more flexible, and more affirming.

Neurodivergent-affirming EMDR does not force clients into a standard process. Instead, it adapts therapy to fit your nervous system, communication style, sensory needs, and pace.

Learn how EMDR therapy can be adapted for autistic and ADHD clients with a neurodivergent-affirming approach that supports safety, flexibility, and healing.

The conversation around GLP-1 medications has become about much more than healthcare. Every day, social media, news headlines, and everyday conversations invite people to weigh in on who “should” take these medications, who “deserves” them, and what they say about the people who use them. Lost in these conversations is something equally important: the emotional impact. The relationship between GLP-1s and mental health extends beyond the medication itself.

Whether someone is taking a GLP-1 medication, living in a larger body, or simply trying to feel at home in their own body, today’s conversations can reinforce the message that appearance is something to be judged, explained, or defended.

Explore how GLP-1s and mental health are influenced by body image and social stigma, including judgment faced by medication users and larger-bodied individuals.

“Is couples therapy right for us?”

For some, the answer feels obvious. For many others, it doesn’t. You may wonder whether your problems are “serious enough,” worry that therapy means your relationship is failing, or hope things will improve on their own. Those concerns are incredibly common.

The reality is that couples counseling isn’t reserved for relationships in crisis. Many couples begin therapy simply because they want healthier communication, stronger connection, and better tools for navigating life’s challenges together.

Wondering whether couples therapy is the right next step? Learn common signs your relationship could benefit from counseling and download our free Couples Therapy Readiness Self-Assessment.

A lot of people enter relationships with good intentions but very little structure. That can lead to misunderstandings, repeated conflict, and a vague sense that something important is missing. Creating a relationship vision can help you name what you want, how you want to treat each other, and what kind of connection you are trying to build together.

Imago therapy emphasizes shared meaning, emotional safety, and intentional connection, which makes relationship visioning a natural fit for this approach. At Steffen Counseling Services, this kind of work also aligns with a relational and affirming therapy style that supports LGBTQIA+ clients, non-monogamous relationships, and diverse relationship structures.

Check out our latest blog post! Parenting and family dynamics are shaped by more than personal preference. They are influenced by the family rules, cultural expectations, and emotional lessons that are passed down from one generation to the next. In therapy, these inherited patterns often show up in the way families communicate, set boundaries, manage conflict, and express care.
