Washington law also prohibits an employer from retaliating against you for filing an L&I claim. Learn what may happen to your time-loss benefits, medical coverage, and other workers’ compensation benefits if your employment ends while your claim is open. Walthew Law Firm is proud to recognize our paralegal, Chelsi, who took time from her busy work schedule to volunteer with Food Lifeline on June 12, 2026, at an event organized by the Washington State Association for Justice.

As a Seattle law firm serving injured workers, accident victims, and families across Washington for more than 90 years, we are proud to support community service both inside and outside the office.

Thank you, Chelsi, for representing Walthew Law Firm and giving back to the Washington community!

Every Washington worker injured on the job has the right to file a workers’ compensation claim. During the claim process, you may be required to attend an Independent Medical Examination. This exam is used to help determine whether your condition is related to your workplace injury and how serious the condition is. Before attending an IME, workers should know what to expect - "independent" does not mean "neutral." Read more to learn how to navigate an IME. https://www.walthew.com/independent-medical-evaluation-ime/

Got an unfavorable WA State L&I decision on your workers’ comp claim? Take a breath but move fast. In many cases you can protest or appeal, and you typically have 60 days to do it (15 days for certain vocational decisions). And yes, your challenge needs to be in writing, not just a call to the claims manager.

Here’s a guide from Walthew Law Firm on what to file, what to include, and what can happen next—so you don’t lose ground on a technicality. Learn more https://www.walthew.com/protesting-or-appealing-an-unfavorable-li-decision/
