In May 2025, a flood forced us out of our Seattle office. We worked from Lesley's home, then a temporary space, and our clients' cases never stopped. Now the remodel is done, and the doors are open again!

Thank you to everyone who was patient with us through the moves and the address changes. Take a quick look around.

This past Thursday was a day of celebration.

We reopened our office at 159 Denny Way after the devastating flood in May 2025, and got to show off the newly remodeled space to clients, colleagues, friends, and family.

Through every step of this journey, our community has been at our side. From working out of Lesley’s home at first, to a temporary office, to finally walking back through these doors, you were with us the whole way.

So this wasn’t just a celebration of a remodeled office. It was a celebration of community.

Thank you for showing up for us. We’ll keep showing up for you.

Celebrating three years of Sylvia and Norma.
We took a boat from South Lake Union out to the downtown waterfront, because three years deserves more than a cake in the break room.

If you have called our office, you have talked to Norma. She is the first voice most of our clients hear, often on the hardest day of their case, and she has a way of making people feel like somebody is on their side.

If you have a case with us, Sylvia has had her hands on it. She prepares the documents and catches the small things that turn into big problems later. Immigration paperwork does not forgive mistakes. She does not make them.

Both of them do this in Spanish and in English, which means our clients get to explain their own lives in their own words. That matters more than we can say.

Thank you both. Here is to the next three.
——

IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR IMMIGRANT VISA APPLICANTS

The U.S. Department of State has announced a temporary pause and rescheduling of immigrant visa appointments at U.S. embassies and consulates worldwide.

According to the State Department, consular officers are undergoing new training focused in part on evaluating whether immigrant visa applicants are likely to become a “public charge.” The pause is affecting interviews that were already scheduled, with some applicants receiving notice that their appointments have been canceled or rescheduled. At this time, there is no clear timeline for when regular scheduling will start again.

• If your interview was canceled or rescheduled, do not assume your case has been denied. This appears to be a scheduling/processing pause, not a denial of the underlying immigration petition.

• If your case is at NVC or you are preparing for consular processing, it is still important to continue completing the required steps and gathering your documents.

• If you have urgent circumstances, including serious medical, family, or other humanitarian issues, speak with an immigration attorney about your options.

This is a rapidly developing situation, and additional guidance from the Department of State may change how these cases are handled.

At L.I.H. Law, PS, we will continue monitoring these developments and sharing updates as more information becomes available.

If you have questions about how this may affect your particular case, contact our office for guidance.

Good news for many immigrants with pending cases!

A federal court has ordered USCIS to resume processing cases that had been placed on hold under policies affecting people from 39 countries. If your case has been delayed for months with little or no explanation, this update may be important for you.

While the government may appeal the decision, USCIS has been ordered to move forward with processing affected applications for now.

If you’ve been waiting on a green card, work permit, citizenship application, asylum case, or another immigration benefit, it may be worth checking whether this change could impact your case.
