Resolution Copper President & General Manager Vicky Peacey says the time has come to move one of Arizona’s most significant economic development projects forward.

In a new Arizona Republic op-ed, Peacey highlights the completion of the land exchange, the project's potential to supply nearly one-quarter of America’s domestic copper needs, create thousands of jobs, and contribute approximately $1 billion annually to Arizona’s economy.

Could proposed changes to Arizona’s spousal maintenance laws create unintended consequences?

family law attorney Kelsey Fischer says Senate Bill 1049’s proposed four-year cap on spousal maintenance may improve consistency, but risks eliminating the judicial discretion needed to address the realities of long-term marriages, disability, caregiving responsibilities, and other unique circumstances.

“While reforms aimed at preventing inappropriate or excessive awards may be worth discussing, removing judicial discretion entirely risks creating inequitable outcomes for the very people spousal maintenance was designed to protect,” Fischer said.

A federal judge has ruled that a controversial $100,000 fee on certain new H-1B visa petitions is unlawful, finding that the charge functioned as a tax rather than a legitimate immigration-related penalty.

According to Rose Law Group Immigration Law Department Chair Darius Amiri, the court determined that because the Constitution gives Congress, not the President, the authority to impose taxes, the administration lacked the legal authority to create the fee through executive action alone.

Although the federal government is expected to appeal the decision, employers considering hiring foreign talent may proceed without the additional $100,000 fee while the ruling remains in effect. Before the policy, government filing fees for H-1B petitions generally ranged from approximately $2,000 to $5,000.
