Revisions to a project called Copper Residences Planned Unit Development that would replace the Mesquite Golf Course at Kierland in Phoenix is not satisfying nearby residents, according to ABC15. Westin Kierland Resort & Spa seeks to replace the six-hole golf course with homes, townhomes, condos or apartments.

The Mesquite Golf Course is one of three near 66th Street and Greenway Parkway along the Scottsdale-Phoenix border. Many Phoenix and Scottsdale residents, including those who do not live in the community, have expressed a strong dislike of the project on our page.

The project might set a precedent where Phoenix open spaces, such as privately-held parks and golf courses, could be replaced by housing or other development. North Scottsdale is better protected from such conversions because of its strict Natural Area Open Spaces (NAOS) ordinance that requires that one-third of all properties remain natural open areas.

Although we originally reported that Dutch Bros would be purchasing stores from the now defunct Salad and Go, it seems that a competitor called 7 Brew managed to win an auction for the sites, according to the Phoenix Business Journal. 7 Brew, an Arkansas-based chain, contested an earlier deal that called for Dutch Bros to purchase 65 locations from Salad and Go, which filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection on Aug. 4th.

7 Brew offered $143.18 million for 73 stores, well above Dutch Bros’ offer to buy 65 sites for $105 million. The purchase will bring 41 7 Brew stores into the Arizona market for the first time. There are two Salad and Go locations in North Scottsdale.

7 Brew is acquiring 20 Salad and Go stores in Texas, six in Nevada and six in Oklahoma.

The 7 Brew purchase will be considered by U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Alfredo R. Pérez at a Sept. 21st hearing. A second auction may be held for the remaining stores that were not yet put up for sale.

The Scottsdale City Council may finally take a vote on building the $6.3 million westbound bridge at Thompson Peak Parkway (TPP) during its Sept. 22nd meeting. As McDowell Mountain and DC ranch residents have long known, drivers and cyclists have been forced onto the eastbound bridge over the Reata Pass wash since TPP was built.

Most of the funding for the long-awaited second bridge was approved as part of the 2019 Capital Bond election, but it was scheduled as one of the later projects to be built. A portion of the project will also be funded by the 0.2% Transportation Sales Tax.

Why is the city finally building the bridge? “Over time with development in the area, the Thompson Peak Parkway bridge has kept up with the vehicular traffic volume, however, with an increase of bicycle traffic along this segment of roadway the bridge has become a safety concern for motorists and cyclists,” according to an information page posted by Scottsdale.

Because the City Council has tentatively posted the project on the consent agenda, it’s expected to be approved with construction beginning this fall. The overall project is expected to take about a year to complete.
We’ll have more details once the formal agenda has been posted.

Amazon Prime Air plans to reach 500 cities by the end of 2026, including the Phoenix area, the company announced though we’re not sure that the 85255 ZIP Code has been added yet. Amazon is increasing its drone delivery footprint by a factor of six and will reach millions of customers nationwide, according to the company.

Prime Air can only deliver items that weigh less than 5 pounds and can fit in a large shoebox, but that accounts for 60% of ordered items, according to the company. Delivery generally takes between 30 and 60 minutes. There is a $2.99 delivery fee for orders under $50 for Prime members and $4.99 for those who are not members. Drone delivery is free for Prime members who place orders that are over $50.

In Bloomfield Hills, Mich., where the service is already available, we see and hear several drones a day buzz over our summer location. During Prime Days that rate can reach half a dozen an hour. The drones fly through FAA-approved air space.
The current ZIP Codes where the service is available include:

85031
85033
85035
85037
85043
85301
85303
85305
85307
85323
85338
85339
85340
85353
85392

Walmart is planning similar expanded operations, according to the Phoenix Business Journal. So far Walmart has relied on Valley stores to provide drone deliveries. Those locations include:

• 5250 W. Indian School Road
• 7575 W. Lower Buckeye Road
• 2020 N. 75th Ave.
• 6145 N. 35th Ave.
• 4435 W. Anthem Way

The park includes four art panels that feature dogs, local plant life and a mountain landscape created by Scottsdale artist Sachi Kale, who was born and raised in Mumbai, India.

The park, open from sunrise to 10:30 p.m. daily, is located at 20199 N. 78th Place, near the southwest corner of Hayden Road and Thompson Peak Parkway.
