Revisions to a project called Copper Residences Planned Unit Development that would replace the Mesquite Golf Course at Kierland in Phoenix is not satisfying nearby residents, according to ABC15. Westin Kierland Resort & Spa seeks to replace the six-hole golf course with homes, townhomes, condos or apartments.
The Mesquite Golf Course is one of three near 66th Street and Greenway Parkway along the Scottsdale-Phoenix border. Many Phoenix and Scottsdale residents, including those who do not live in the community, have expressed a strong dislike of the project on our page.
The project might set a precedent where Phoenix open spaces, such as privately-held parks and golf courses, could be replaced by housing or other development. North Scottsdale is better protected from such conversions because of its strict Natural Area Open Spaces (NAOS) ordinance that requires that one-third of all properties remain natural open areas.
