Patent, Trademark and Business attorneys, it's time to talk about distinguishing an experienced intellectual property paralegal from one with less experience who is stretching the truth! As an IP law pro, Empress knows the ins and outs of what it takes to be exceptional (even to those of you that others would label "difficult") and the importance of having a qualified patent and trademark paralegal on your team. Here are 4 ways to spot the real deal from the fakers:
1️⃣ Actual Work Experience: Experienced IP paralegals have a proven track record of handling diverse cases and tasks, while those with less experience may only have theoretical knowledge. Ask for concrete examples of their past work to see if they truly have the skills you need.
2️⃣ Familiarity with Legal Language: An experienced IP paralegal is well-versed in what the MPEP/TMEP, various technical terms and can communicate effectively with attorneys and clients. Beware of those who use buzzwords without truly understanding them.
3️⃣ Knowledge of Legal Systems: Patent Center, TEAS, WIPO, and Anaqua are just some of the legal systems an experienced paralegal is familiar with. If they stumble or seem unsure, it's a red flag.
4️⃣ Attention to Detail: IP law requires meticulous attention to detail, and experienced paralegals have honed this skill through their years of experience. Beware of those who claim to be detail-oriented but can't deliver when it counts.
We do not believe there are difficult attorneys. We do believe there are attorneys out there that are tired of putting up with subpar legal support. Don't fall for the smoke and mirrors of someone trying to stretch their truth about their experience in the IP field. Just like everything else, do your due diligence and make sure you have an experienced and knowledgeable paralegal on your team. Trust us, your clients and your practice will thank you. 💼💯✨
