A basic part of the law is the concept of "standing" and "actual cases and controversies". The Supreme Court in its corrupt zest to take away rights took a case where there was no plaintiff with a same-sex couple who wanted a website to commemorate their wedding. They issued an advisory opinion on a nonexistent case. Nevertheless, the precedent is binding on lower courts. As an attorney this makes me me so very angry.

I graduated law school in 1988. My favorite and most respected professor was Sheldon Nahmod. The Constitutional law professor. He is an expert on section 1983 liability for the government's violation of Constitutional rights. Some are suggesting that the Texas police department could be liable because of the significant delay in entering the school where the kids were being murdered. I follow this most respected man on Twitter. Professor Nahmod just tweeted that this case regarding police liability is very relevant. The court held that the police were not liable.

On this date in 1954 the US Supreme Court handed down its a iconic decision in Brown v The Topeka Board of Education. The ruling said that "separate but equal" as held in Plessy v Ferguson was a violation of the 14th amendment's equal protection requirements. The case was argued by the great Thurgood Marshall and this ruling against segregation is said to be one of the sparks of the civil rights movement. Dr Martin Luther King Jr led a boycott of the Memphis transportation system because of it's segregation policy. Thurgood Marshal went in to become the first black US Supreme Court justice.

On this date in 1963, SCOTUS decided Gideon Wainwright which held the people have a right to counsel.

A case in which the Court held that the Sixth and Fourteenth Amendments guarantee a right of legal counsel to anyone accused of a crime.

I have practiced law for 34 years. I have never encountered an incidence of "Home Title Theft".

Some gullible folks buy insurance against their home getting stolen by scammers. Maybe the real threat is from those same insurers.
