National Zoo and Aquarium Month is celebrated annually in June to promote and encourage more individuals to visit zoos and aquariums. Proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan in 1982, the month highlights the vital role accredited facilities play in wildlife conservation, animal research, and environmental education. June is the perfect month to go outside and spend some time at a zoo or aquarium, and we have some world-class zoos and aquariums in Chicago. See the lions at the Lincoln Park Zoo and the Brookfield Zoo. If it’s too warm or rainy for the zoo, try visiting the Shedd Aquarium. Check the calendar for free family days or check or passes at your local library to save on your family outing.
