President & CEO Jennifer Rominiecki just announced that Selby Gardens executed a $41.9 million bond sale and began vertical construction for Phase Two of the Master Plan for our Downtown Sarasota campus with 98% of the campaign goal raised! Phase Two consists of a first-of-its-kind hurricane resilient Conservatory Complex, Learning Pavilion, and key landscape features. A $41.9 million bond sale has been executed for financing, which enables us to maintain an aggressive construction schedule while multiyear philanthropic gifts are realized!
Vertical construction has just begun, and we expect to open in November 2028!
The new Conservatory Complex will feature the Selby System, an innovative, hurricane-resilient greenhouse design for which Selby Gardens is pursuing trademark protection.
We have now raised 98% of the funds needed for our Phase Two Campaign!
Onward and upward!

Most out-of-state buyers begin their Sarasota home search by saving properties online and planning a few days of showings.

That sounds logical, but it can quickly become overwhelming.

After helping hundreds of relocation buyers over more than 20 years, I prefer to begin before anyone books a flight.

The first question I ask is straightforward:

What is your budget?

From there, we review the homes currently available within that price range. Looking at actual properties—not wish lists—gives buyers a realistic picture of what their budget will buy, which features are attainable, and where compromises may become necessary.

Their reactions to specific properties tell me much more than a general wish list. We can discuss what they like, what they dislike, and how each home fits the location and lifestyle they have in mind. I can then add the details that may not be obvious online, including neighborhood characteristics, construction, insurance, flood exposure, privacy, HOA costs, and commute considerations.

In my experience, the least productive approach is arriving in Sarasota with a long Zillow list and hoping that a few days of touring homes will make the decision clear. By then, buyers are often trying to evaluate neighborhoods, lifestyles, budgets, and homes all at the same time.

I would rather spend that time evaluating the right homes than eliminating the wrong ones.
