Greetings !! First and foremost, another apology for the amount of time that has slipped by without any sort of update. I don’t have any good excuse – just life. Life has a way of getting busier and busier it seems. I think most people get that, but it still bothers me that gathering my thoughts for an update keeps getting pushed down the priority list.
It has been just over a year since my last update and we have been very busy and navigating the ever-changing environment of this industry. There are always bumps in the road – challenges come in all sorts of sizes and some you see coming, and some you don’t. With some of the challenges you can have some influence over, but others you just have to deal with.
For example, the implementation of Reg F took several weeks of planning and was a challenge for sure. We navigated that last fall and as we were getting our feet back under us, the greater economy started to slow down and we all sensed some challenging currents were coming our way. This summer and into this fall we have been navigating that as best we can, only to have the unexpected week off due to Hurricane Ian coming close to us. Thankfully, we were spared the devastating effects of that storm but we did suffer several days without power and some minor damages. Even still, our thoughts and prayers go out to those south of us that were severely impacted by Hurricane Ian.
Over the last year, we have expanded our office some and we now occupy the entire second floor of the building. Also, we are very happy to let everyone know that we brought on a couple of new team members here!! We have a great group here now and we are always looking for new members that will be a real good fit to our organization. So if anyone is interested, feel free to reach out!!
But most of all, we remain very appreciative for the clients that we represent. We feel blessed and humbled that so many clients trust us and want us to represent them for their accounts. And that is a direct result of the great team we have here!!
To all of our clients and colleagues around the country, we thank you !

10/04/2022

Thank you to all of our clients, friends, and colleagues from around the country for all of the support and concern for us during Hurricane Ian's pass through our area. We are all fine and most thankful. Some of our team are still without power at home but that should be resolved in the next day or so. Some of us have had some damage to our homes, and I think we all have allot of clean up to do! All can be repaired in short order.
The Office building came through like a champ. The back up generator did it's job wonderfully so our systems were only down for a few hours despite not having power for several days.
So, from now on, we are back to our normal, full-speed work schedules !!

It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of one of our team and family here are Hodges, Avrutis & Foeller. Novie was a central figure here and has been on this journey with us for about 20 years. During that time, Novie has been instrumental in all aspects of what we do here. She knew this industry very well and she always had a much-needed perspective when Tom and I were considering various changes. I remember very well when the recession hit us in late 2008 and early 2009, our revenue just evaporated and we were scrambling to survive. Novie volunteered to reduce her pay rate so that we could help keep more people employed rather than laying people off. That is the type of person she was – she genuinely cared about people.
Those that knew her knew that Novie did not like the spot light and she was a very private person so I want to honor that here and be brief. However, I also wanted to recognize her passing and extend our condolences and deepest sympathy to her family and friends. Rest in peace, Novie.

It is hard to believe it has been so long since we posted any type of update to any of our media outlets but, as most can understand, life has been very busy. Normally I attend several conferences and industry events throughout the year. I use those experiences as a basis for educational updates, process improvements, and client networking ‘stories’ to share with our staff and also to present on our media outlets. Unfortunately, I was very busy last fall and skipped some events and then the onset of COVID-19 has kept me from attending any events and my interactions with my colleagues around the country has been minimal.
Thankfully, I am happy to advise that all of us at HAF have been healthy and we have been keeping very busy. We’ve had our share of bumps along the way in trying to adjust to the ‘new normal’ that keeps changing. I am happy to share that our office has been open the entire time and we have been able to continue our efforts on behalf of our clients. The Court system in Florida is largely open for business and we are getting things moving. There are still some counties and some Judges that have large backlogs, and there are some areas that are struggling with adopting some of the technology solutions to assist in keeping civil litigation cases moving. But the Judges and clerks that we work with are working hard to resolve problem areas and get back to work as soon and as much as possible. As such, we are very optimistic looking forward and working hard to adjust, adapt, and evolve as needed.
With that, all of us here at HAF extend our well wishes and we hope that all of our friends, colleagues, and clients around the world are staying healthy and doing well!

Attorney Scott Foeller attended the ACA International Fall Forum & Expo in Chicago last week. The event was a huge success and offered some wonderful learning and networking opportunities. The sessions discussing the CFPB’s SBREFA hearings were particularly interesting and afforded attendees a glimpse of how the CFPB goes about refining and enacting the proposed Rules. It was also very interesting talking with counter parts in other states and parts of the country to learn how they are surviving and growing in this challenging political and economic environment.
