Tonight, Santa Fe burns its worries. 🔥

If you’ve never experienced Zozobra, this is one of those traditions that tells you almost everything you need to know about Santa Fe.

For 102 years, we’ve gathered to burn Old Man Gloom, a 50 foot marionette stuffed with thousands of people’s “glooms”: regrets, worries, bad memories and all the things we’re ready to leave behind.

It started in 1924, when Santa Fe artist Will Shuster created the first Zozobra, and somehow the tradition has only gotten bigger, louder and more beloved.

And tonight’s 102nd burning has a particularly great twist.

In honor of America’s 250th anniversary, the 2026 theme is “The Tyranny of Gloom vs. the Spirit of ’76.” This year Old Man Gloom has apparently gotten a little too big for his britches and stolen King George III’s crown, robes and scepter. 😂

The plan?

Overthrow the tyrant.

The Fire Spirit wins. The crowd screams “BURN HIM!” Zozobra groans dramatically, the fireworks begin, and 50 feet of gloom goes up in flames.

And yes, it is every bit as wonderfully weird and spectacular as it sounds.

Tens of thousands of people will gather at Fort Marcy tonight for a tradition that is part celebration, part theater, part collective exhale.

There’s something I’ve always loved about the idea behind it.

Write down what you’re carrying.
Give it to Old Man Gloom.
Watch it burn.
Start again.

That feels pretty Santa Fe to me.

Happy Zozobra, Santa Fe. 🔥

BURN HIM!

09/03/2026

We’re ready to burn him. 🔥
Old Man Gloom has had quite the year, and this Friday, we’re more than happy to send him up in flames.

For more than 100 years, Santa Fe has gathered to burn Zozobra, along with all the gloom, worries, regrets and general nonsense we’re ready to leave behind.
Write it down. Toss it in. Let it burn.

Because sometimes you just need a 50 foot marionette, thousands of your closest friends and one enormous bonfire to remind you that it’s okay to start fresh.

See you Friday, Santa Fe. 🔥

I keep looking through these pictures. ❤️
Not just because it was a beautiful party, although it certainly was. I’m looking at the people.
Friends. Clients. Colleagues. People I’ve worked alongside for years. People I’ve had the privilege of helping find a home or sell one. People who have referred their friends to us, supported our business, cheered us on and become part of our lives along the way.

Saturday night at Beck & Bulow was supposed to be a party. And it was a REALLY good party. But looking through these photos afterward, I realized it was also a pretty wonderful reminder of what I love about doing business in this community.
It’s the people. It has always been the people.

Thank you to everyone who came out and made the night what it was. And another enormous thank you to Beck & Bulow, our incredible sponsors and Waterstone Mortgage, our musicians, and her amazing band! And everyone who helped us pull this thing off.

Scroll through. You might see someone you know.

Saturday night was one for the books. ❤️
We gathered some of our favorite people at the Beck & Bulow ranch for an evening of incredible food, live music, horses, dancing, cocktails, and a whole lot of laughter.

But what I loved most was looking around that barn and seeing so many people who make this community what it is.

Real estate may be what brings many of us together, but relationships are what make this work meaningful. We wanted to throw a party that was simply about celebrating our clients, our friends, our colleagues and this pretty extraordinary place we get to call home.

A HUGE thank you to Beck & Bulow for opening up the ranch, feeding us so incredibly well and helping us create such a memorable night.

And to everyone who came out, danced, ate, laughed and stayed awhile, thank you. You made the party. ❤️
We might have to do this again.

Some feelings are impossible to explain.
But if I could bottle up the feeling of Santa Fe at the end of the day, it might look something like this.

The light. The mountains. The adobe. That sky that makes you stop whatever you’re doing and look up.
I’ve lived here long enough to know I should be used to it.

I’m not. And I hope I never am. ❤️

Tell me you live in Santa Fe without telling me you live in Santa Fe, I’ll go first…
1. You know “Christmas” is an answer, not a holiday.
2. You know a million dollar house can absolutely be at the end of a dirt road.
3. You’ve planned your entire route across town around avoiding Cerrillos Road.
4. You don’t think twice about someone wearing $2,000 boots with a 30 year old fleece jacket.
5. You’ve watched a tourist discover altitude and margaritas at the same time.
6. You know a restaurant closing at 8:30 is not remotely unusual.
7. You consider someone who lives in Eldorado both a Santa Fean and someone who lives VERY far away.

Some nights in Santa Fe, you don’t need a plan.
You just head downtown, turn a corner, hear music coming from the Plaza and follow it.

People dancing. Friends running into friends. That blue Santa Fe evening sky. Nobody in much of a hurry to go home.

This is the Santa Fe I love most. The one you stumble into.
