Herb is a former officer (and continues to be an active member) of the Appellate Courts Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and is a former director of the Santa Barbara County Bar Association. In 2015 he was appointed to the Appellate Courts Committee of the California State Bar. He is the author of 75 articles on appellate law and procedure, and hundreds of other articles on music, politics, and government, appearing in national and local publications including the Los Angeles Daily Journal and the Los Angeles Times.
