At my notary appointment today, watching two elderly women literally beating on each other was a little disturbing. I thought about what caused such anger. I know that fear often leads to anger and I can understand why they would be fearful.
As our parents grow older, they face many challenges and changes in their lives, which can be tough for them. Transitioning to a senior community or care facility can be a daunting and fearful experience. Imagine being in a place where everything feels strange, from the surroundings to the people around you to your daily routine. This sudden change can lead to feelings of fear and uncertainty, especially when it involves giving up some freedoms or self sufficiency. They might worry about the food choices, the daily schedule, or even sharing a room with someone they don’t know. What a scary time for them!
It’s important to remember that this new chapter in their lives is not just about moving; it is giving up everything that gave them comfort and even more difficult to adjust to is giving up their independence. By showing patience, understanding and compassion during this time, we can help ease their concerns and make this transition smoother for them. It’s about helping them feel safe, supported and loved.
One day.. all we have is memories of them.
